"Where there's a will, there's a Way José." My first ever "solo" project, which is truly a MASSIVE collaboration, is officially a thing! Since our June release we've gotten radio spins from California all the way to London; received some flattering press (and some more still); done a couple very fun interviews; and even secured a spot on this killer vinyl compilation of local Bay Area artists, which sounds AND looks crystal clear!
Music videos have been a major focus of the project and I've been extremely fortunate to work with some brave and brilliant directors. The impossibly talented Japhy Riddle dreamed up this video for "The Wind Came Up", and its immediate success led us to partner with HIP Video Promo, a righteous company whose client list includes the likes of Fleet Foxes, Pearl Jam, The Pixies, and Johnny Cash (just to name a few). We think we're in good company!
A quick 16,000 views on ReverbNation helped us reach #2 nationally and #5 globally on the Indie Charts there, and kept us at #1 in San Francisco for an astounding 14 weeks! In other music video news, Jennifer Nicole Stang's beautiful vision of "Broken" recently earned her an Award of Merit from the Accolade Global Film Competition. ¡Olé!
We were thrilled to be among the Staff Picks at Brite Revolution--indie tastemaker and music discovery site--and are honored to call ourselves a Featured Artist on the World Indie Music Network. We also just learned that "Buck" was a finalist in the World Citizen Artists Songwriting Competition, which is for a very worthy and currently critical cause (PEACE!). The powerful video for that tune is slated to come out in early 2015, so stay tuned…
Of course the new year will also bring a fresh batch of new music and tantalizing collaborations! We're both humbled by our EP's early success and tremendously excited for what the future holds. Sign up for our mailing list here if you want to keep in touch and be a part of this crazy trip!
I had the distinct pleasure of mixing RONNY, the solo debut record from Ron Gallo of Toy Soldiers fame. Philly Now called it one of The 25 Best Albums of 2014, and Swollen Fox gave it Top 15 honors! It's one of my favorite albums ever, period. One of my favorite songs off the record, "Fine Diners & Finer Whiners", was chosen as one of The Best 14 Songs of 2014 by Red Line Roots.
If you're looking to collaborate on any recording or mixing, don't hesitate to click 'Contact and Booking' so I can tell you all about my mobile--and at times transcontinental--11:11 Studios. Some very intriguing projects are already in the works for this coming year, including "recording homestays" up on our Sonoma County Ranch! Sounds fun, right? Let's talk about it.
"A Special World" by Lola Rosa and Cristian Agrillo--which I engineered, co-produced, and mastered--is now available on Italian record label Fruit Of Noise. It was a genuinely enjoyable foray into the pop universe…bella, bella!
Along those lines, I also recently joined an exciting fledgling project called WWMU (Worldwide Musicians United), which is quite literally a global collaboration between a growing pool of innovative music makers and producers. Our first single is sounding truly amazing and we can't wait to share it with the world. Look out cinema fans and music supervisors EVERYWHERE!
My "mistress" (NOT "sister") band Feather-Bright released our debut self-titled record on the sacred date of 11/11! We had a blast working with world class engineer, producer, and friend Isha Erskine at (Tom Waits' favorite) Prairie Sun Studios. The initial response to the album from fans and press alike has been overwhelmingly positive and highly inspiring!
Following our "Hail The Moon" California tour in November, we were voted SF Artist of the Month over at The Deli SF. Shortly thereafter we made their list of The 10 Best Albums of 2014! The songs have been thriving on college radio, and even landed us a spot on notorious Detroit DJ Phil Maq's Top 50 Albums of 2014 list. If you're in the Pacific Northwest, be sure to look for us in a town near you when we hit the road to tour this Spring!
My music has appeared on MSNBC, Discovery Channel, Style Network and MTV here in the U.S., as well as on programs in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, France, Austria, Kazakhstan and the U.K. Next up is a Bravo Channel docudrama, and you bet we'll keep you posted on the details! There are also whispers of a documentary film score in 2015, but we'll have to wait and see…
Finally I'm pleased to announce that I've joined the elite artist team (on a *non-exclusive* basis) over at Pop-Up Music in the U.K., which places compelling music in various media worldwide. If you're interested in licensing music for film, TV, or just about any other creative project that you've dreamed up, simply click 'Contact and Booking' to let me know directly!
Wishing you a creative and deeply fulfilling 2015! Thank you kindly and be well.
